Request Side-Stone Options
Start from the setting or CAD seat
Provide the available seat length, width, depth, angle and prong constraints. A side stone that matches a carat target but not the seat geometry can force an avoidable redesign.
Pair orientation must be explicit
Trapezoid, half-moon, pear and tapered forms may require mirrored left and right orientations. Mark the center-facing edge, point direction or taper in the drawing so the pair is not quoted in the same orientation.
Relate side stones to the center
Use face-up dimensions, total layout width, outline transition and setting angle to define the relationship. The objective may be balanced proportion, a gradual taper or a deliberate contrast rather than equal carat weight.
Size, outline and visual tolerances
Record length, width, ratio, carat range, outline points, facet reference, color and clarity relationship. State which differences are acceptable when the stones are viewed together in the planned layout.
Side-stone RFQ checklist
Include the center-stone dimensions, CAD or setting reference, shape, pair orientation, exact length and width, ratio, carat tolerance, color, clarity, quantity of pairs and target delivery context.

When the center and sides are being sourced together, review total width, seat angles and prong clearance as one system.

Should side stones be chosen by carat or dimensions?
Face-up dimensions and setting fit usually lead the decision. Carat remains part of the specification but does not replace length, width and orientation.
Can side stones be cut to an existing CAD?
A custom-cut review can use CAD seat dimensions and a controlled drawing. Feasibility, tolerance and timing are confirmed in the quotation.
