Lab-Grown Diamond Layouts for Three-Stone Ring Production
Plan center and side stones as one measured layout before confirming individual weights, settings or production records.

Center and side specifications are connected
The center stone establishes the face-up scale and outline transition. Side stones then need dimensions, orientation and angles that fit the desired total composition and the intended setting construction.
Use face-up dimensions before carat weight
Carat weight does not define visible width. Start with center length and width, side-stone length and width, desired coverage and total layout width. Use weight as a supporting range once the geometry is workable.
Control angle, orientation and total width
Mark how each side stone tilts toward the center, which edge faces inward and the maximum finished spread. Mirrored orientation should be visible in the drawing or CAD rather than described only in free text.
Respect CAD seat and prong constraints
Provide seat dimensions, girdle position, prong placement and clearance where available. The stone layout and ring architecture should be reviewed together so one component does not force an unapproved change to another.
Combination logic
Oval with half-moon sides creates a curved transition, emerald with trapezoids emphasizes stepped geometry, and round with pears creates a tapered outline. These are planning examples, not statements of current availability.
Buyer layout checklist
Include center shape and dimensions, side-stone shape, exact side dimensions, orientation, target ratio, total layout width, CAD seats, color and clarity relationship, report preference, quantity and intended metal or setting style.
Common layout errors
Avoid selecting each stone separately, using carat weight as the only scale, omitting mirror orientation, or approving a stone group before checking the CAD seats and prong clearances.
Buyer questions
Can the side stones be sourced before the center?
It is possible, but the final center dimensions and setting plan still control the relationship. Sourcing the layout together usually reduces fit uncertainty.
Do all three stones need the same report grade?
The required grading relationship depends on the visible layout and buyer standard. Define acceptable color, clarity and report preferences for the group.
