What an IGI report commonly records

The applicable report format may identify the item as laboratory-grown and record the report number, shape, cutting style, measurements, carat weight, color, clarity and finish information. Growth method or treatment information may also appear depending on the issued report.

Identity

Report number, report date and laboratory-grown identification.

Measurements

Length, width, depth and carat weight for the graded item.

Grading

Color, clarity and relevant finish or proportion information.

Disclosure

Growth and treatment information included by the issuing laboratory.

Report number verification

Enter the report number in IGI's official verification service and compare the returned record with the supplied document. Use the issuing laboratory's current page rather than a copied image or third-party database.

Laser inscription comparison

When an inscription applies, compare readable inscription media with the report number and the physical stone. A blurred or partial image should be treated as incomplete evidence, not as a successful match.

Measurements and weight comparison

Recheck the stone's physical measurements and weight against the report and quotation. Small differences require investigation before approval because the document, media and item should describe the same stone.

Growth method and treatment disclosure

Review the information shown in the issued report and sourcing record for the selected item. Do not infer CVD, HPHT or treatment status from appearance or from another stone in the same parcel.

How to request a D VS1 IGI lab-grown diamond

State D color and VS1 clarity as required or preferred, then add shape, weight, exact dimensions or ratio, cut priorities, quantity and intended setting. An IGI grade does not replace a visual or dimensional review of the proposed stone.

A grading report is not a market-value guarantee

The report records the laboratory's findings for the identified item. It does not guarantee the current purchase price, investment performance, resale value or future market demand.

Buyer questions

Does every laboratory-grown diamond have an IGI report?

No. Report availability depends on the item and buying requirement. State the laboratory preference in the RFQ and verify the selected report before approval.

Does an IGI report confirm the stone currently offered?

The report must be connected to the physical item through the report number, inscription when applicable, measurements, weight and sourcing record.
